Story Scene for
"As he was getting ready to go, he felt a hoof on his shoulder. He turned to look down at Ditzy's mother. The look on her face was a forced sort of gentle calm. She was hiding her tears. "Spark, Ditzy really wants to see you before you go..."
Spark sighed. He should've known better - of course Ditzy wouldn't let him leave without saying goodbye, or trying to get him to take her with him. Better to bite the bullet now and get it over with - he didn't think either of them would let him live it down if he didn't see her one more time.
He nodded to Ms Bubble Sail and stepped quietly past her. The elder mare sighed and stepped over to her couch and sat down, a hoof covering her eyes. Her young daughter was in love - that much she was happy about. She could've been happy with it being Spark Storm - he was a very responsible young colt, very handsome as well. But fate had decided that neither her daughter nor Spark could be happy. She quietly let out a few remorseful sobs as she sat alone.
When Spark stepped into Ditzy's room through the open door, the first thing he noticed was that she had been changed out of her dirty clothes, and had thrown on some pajamas. Ditzy herself was tucked in bed, lying on her stomach, and staring at the floor, like she was trying to stay awake. The open window let in the cool night air, also through which cascaded beautiful silver moonlight.
With a soft sigh the big pegasus began to cross the room to the bed. It took a moment for the movement to register in Ditzy's eyes, but she finally raised her exhausted eyes and leapt out of bed, throwing the covers off of herself as she wrapped her arms around his neck, the motion pulling Spark to turn around lest he fall on the floor. The tired stallion wrapped his arms around Ditzy, and the two of them, both exhausted and sleepy, fell into a sitting position on Ditzy's bed, with the smaller of the two nestled in Spark's lap.
It was quiet between them for a moment. Ditzy held on to Spark, her face buried in his shoulder. Spark would've been blushing with embarrassment from the way she sat on his lap if he weren't so tired. He could barely think as it was. He'd thought she'd simply gone to sleep there when she suddenly spoke, her voice muffled against his chest. "Mom...says I have to stay...I don't want you to go. You can't go. You have to stay here with me."
The implications the mare made went completely over Spark's head. He was much too tired and, after that long, trying week, still too shocked from the events earlier to put much together. "You know I can't do that, Ditzy. I can't stay here...and you can't come back out there with me. Just-" he reached down, and lightly grasped her chin with his hoof and held her out to look at him. "-stay here. Be safe...live your life, and for...forget..."
Ditzy glared at him as tears began running down her cheeks. She latched back onto him, her hooves gently grasping at his back and shoulders, sobbing for a moment. "I don't want to say goodbye," she finally said through sobs. "I don't want to fall asleep," she added, "because the next time I open my eyes you'll be gone."
Spark didn't know what to say to that, so he didn't say anything, and after a moment, began to rock Ditzy back and forth gently. The comforting motions made Ditzy hold onto him tighter, afraid to let go, but soon enough her grip began to loosen, and she quickly fell asleep in his arms. Spark Storm sighed sadly as he pulled Ditzy from his lap and gently tucked her back into bed. With a final brush of her mane, he left her bedside and headed back downstairs.
